With festive indulgences over for another year, we are often left feeling sluggish, bloated and in need of a detox. Here we divulge our three detox hacks and favourite products to get you feeling fit and fabulous and ready for a successful year ahead.
Go Green…
Chlorophyll is the secret ingredient that gives green vegetables, herbs, algae and grasses their deep green pigment and amazing health benefits. Chlorophyll is rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that can help rid our body of unwanted accumulated toxins (thanks vodka cocktails) by cleansing our digestive system, blood and circulatory system and boosting immunity. Include a range of wholesome greens in your daily freshly squeezed juices, smoothies and salads.
Top greens include:
- Herbs…Coriander, Parsley, Basil, Mint
- Alfalfa, Wheatgrass, and Barley Grass
- Chlorella and Spirulina
- Spinach, Broccoli, Collard Greens and Kale
- Matcha Green Tea
In addition to filling your plate, cup or bowl with a myriad of green foods, a quality greens powder can be an extremely nutritious and simple way to boost your detox program. We have a range of delicious tasting greens powders available online and in-store.
Boost your Gut Health…
Unfortunately, festive indulgences such as alcohol, sugar, gluten and rich foods can irritate our delicate digestive system leaving our ‘second brain’ feeling less than par. The good news is that there are plenty of ways to rebuild a damaged microbiome (that’s the name for the good guys that keep our gut healthy).
Firstly, it may be worth giving your precious body a break from the above-mentioned irritants and stick to eating and drinking foods in their wholesome form. These include plenty of fruits and vegetables, pulses and wholegrains, nuts, seeds, eggs and healthy fats as well as organic meats and meat alternatives.
It’s then time to repopulate the flora in our guts by including products such as…
- Bone broth and collagen powders designed to heal the lining of the digestive system
- Probiotics – fermented foods including kim chi, sauerkraut, miso, kefir, and yoghurt can help replenish a range of beneficial bacteria. Taking a high-quality probiotic supplement is another great way to repopulate your friendly strains.
- Functional Mushrooms are a fantastic food source, rich in minerals with highly beneficial polysaccharides that boost immunity and support overall gut health. Turkey Tail mushroom is an excellent gut and immune support.
Hydrate…
As well as wreaking havoc on gut health, alcohol, refined sugar and processed foods can also dehydrate our bodies, leaving our skin and hair looking lacklustre and our bodies lacking energy and vitality. Here we share a few easy ways to rehydrate the brain and body so you glow once more…
- Ditch caffeine and alcohol (just for a little bit). Both beverages are diuretics, meaning they draw fluids from your kidneys and other organs and excrete them through sweat and urine. This leaves you very dehydrated. Try replacing your morning Jo with a caffeine-free alternative such as dandelion, chicory, hot chocolate or one of our delicious Jomeis healthful latte blends (see below).
- Start your day instead with a large glass of warm lemon water. Lemon water helps to penetrate and hydrate each cell in your body for deeper hydration. Plus, it tastes amazing!
- Fill up on plant-based soups…they are a fabulous way to up your vegetable intake as well as your fluids.
